Overview
RU58841 topical solution used for androgenetic alopecia (male/female pattern hair loss).
Mechanism of Action (How it works)
Hair follicles in genetically susceptible people are sensitive to DHT (dihydrotestosterone) and other androgens. DHT binds androgen receptors in scalp follicles and gradually causes:
- follicle miniaturization
- shorter growth cycles
- thinner hairs
- progressive hair loss
RU58841 works by blocking androgen receptors locally in the scalp. It competes with DHT at the receptor level, reducing the signal that drives miniaturization. Unlike finasteride/dutasteride, it does not primarily reduce DHT production—it blocks DHT action where applied
